Making the Complex Easy

The wayfinding design group working with Premier Health, PlanIT Studios, worked with Premier Health to complete internal signage location and content planning for a newly acquired hospital, rebranding to the Premier Health brand. PlanIT worked to develop custom sign templates from design guidance and plan for implementation.

While a new building was acquired, it was also being extended producing a mix of existing floor plans and new. Premier Health is an established brand and this project required branding signage as well as wayfinding planning and design. Due to the need for a rapid rebrand, the design, planning and implementation had to be completed with as little disruption as possible.

The prior signage was poorly-documented and disparate, meaning patients found it difficult to make their way around the hospital and hospital administrators had a hard time making effective additions or changes to signage.

The design standards, sign types, destination dictionary were uploaded into PAM allowing PlanIT to plan sign locations, schedule content and produce the artwork as one seamless exercise.

In a hospital environment, poor signage leads to distressed patients and the extra burden of ‘directing traffic’ often falls on a staff already under significant pressure. Creating a well-designed, unified and clear wayfinding system improves the efficiency of the hospital facility and minimizes the distraction for both staff and patients.
